Rana Sanaullah holds grand 'debunking' press conference

FAISALABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah staged a symbolic court in front of reporters in Faisalabad on Tuesday and presented several of the suspected men alleged to have killed Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Haq Nawaz in violent protests yesterday.

Sanaullah brought his guard, Nadeem Mughal, in front of the reporters and held up a picture of the gunman, asking those present to draw a comparison between Mughal and the man seen firing on TV.

The PML-N leader said PTI Chairman Imran Khan's party had implicated more than 300 men in the first information report (FIR) they had registered, which also include several top PML-N leaders.

He added that PTI's FIR implicated Imtiaz s/o Siraj as the man who had fired on PTI workers. Sanaullah said the Punjab police had found the suspect and, with an air of drama, Imtiaz was also brought in front of reporters for a comparison with the shooter's image.

The PML-N leader said that by implicating an innocent man, Imtiaz, PTI was trying to protect the actual murderer of Nawaz. He said the Punjab police would find the perpetrator, and for that several PTI workers will also be questioned, he said adding that the PTI has already been informed in this regard.

Clarifying his position again on PTI claims that Nawaz was shot by his family's guard, Sanaullah said TV channels caught that man live and National Database Regulatory Authority (Nadra) would soon identify him.

He alleged that PTI workers took the body of Nawaz by force from the hospital and brought it to his home on the orders of Imran Khan and PTI's leadership, adding that he would pursue a legal action against them.

The PML-N leader said Faisalabad was at peace by 11am on December 8, and that it was Imran Khan and his men who disrupted peace of the city.

Sanaullah alleged that part of Imran's Plan 'C' was to get PTI activists killed on their way to different cities.

Sanaullah did however admit there was a possibility of a militant organisation being behind the Faisalabad violence, given numerous looming threats.

I belong to Faisalabad and it is a well known fact in the city that Rana Sana is the head of all goons and hooligans of Faisalabad. He harbours criminals and at many instances his guards have mistreated the common people. It is so shameful for me to see supporters of PMLN from Faisalabad, with the knowledge about this guy, to keep on supporting his actions.

@Ahmad I also belong from Faisalabad and know other candidates of PPP and PTI. Rana is far better than other candidates. He stood infront of dictator Musharaf where army tortured him but he stood for the right,, didnt begged for seat and was thrown in jail bcz he didnt joined PML Q.

I read all the comments. Most of the people who posted comments here were not present at the incident site. All comments are based on media reports and he said -she said. It was a tragedy and an innocent young man was killed. We need to find out the killer and anyone else involved in this heinous crime. Blame game is not the right way to handle the situation. This crime should be investigated by independent commission and without any influence of party politics. Let the law takes its own course.

It is a great shame that people like Rana Sanaullah and Abid Sher Ali are in a position of responsibility in our government. That is the problem with democracy in poor countries like Pakistan where people are not educated and thugs and criminal elements with money and contacts come in politics and succeed by hook and crook. That is what IK is fighting against but it is going to be very difficult to change the status quo when all such elements combine to oppose one man. NS, Zardari, Maulana, ANP, Sherpao and list goes on. God help Pakistan.

@Bilal It was not just PTI but the victim's brother also agreed with the name mentioned in the FIR. Would a brother lie about who killed his brother? If the guys shown by Rana Sanaullah are really Nadeem Mughal and Imtiaz Siraj then why did they not clear their names yesterday as soon as their names were mentioned as murder suspects. Why did they wait for 24 hours before clearing their names. Any innocent man with morals would clear his name as soon as possible. In fact if Rana Sanaullah is right then he should have told the police and media about these facts yesterday so that they quickly directed their efforts in the right direction instead of looking for the wrong men. Was the police and media not told about this earlier so that the murderer could escape or was someone trying to buy some time to make fake ids or is a look alike being searched for the killer or is the killer being blackmailed to make him say that he belongs to PTI. Whatever the reason the delay in press conference and no immediate measures to clear these people's names tells that Rana Sanaullah's press talk can't be trusted and that his press conference was very weak. Dawn please post as I believe I have respectfully raised few very important questions.

This guy was firing under the protection of Police, otherwise why didn't police stop and arrest him. Rana is trying to manipulate the case now as usual. Police is in control of Rana and punjab government therefor Rana and punjab government should be held responsible for killing innocents in Faisalabad. The dilemma is PM and CM of punjab control judiciary and policy, and independent inquiry is not possible, there is no law and order in Punjab.
