ISLAMABAD: With the government seemingly unable to include abettors in the treason case within the time frame given by the special court, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought the opinion of the attorney general (AG) on a petition seeking the ‘solo trial’ of former president Pervez Musharraf.

The three-judge special court seized with the high treason trial of the former military ruler on November 21 directed the federal government to include ex-prime minister Shaukat Aziz, PML-N leader Zahid Hamid and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar as the co-accused in the treason case within a fortnight.

On Thursday, the prosecution in the treason case filed an application with the special court seeking more time to include the abettors in the case.

In the application, the government informed the court that deliberation on various aspects of the special court order was ongoing. It requested the court to extend the fortnight deadline and give ‘reasonable extension’ enabling the government to complete its deliberations.

The federal government was reportedly considering either complying with the court order, challenging it in the IHC or filing a reference or appeal against it with the Supreme Court.
