GUJRANWALA: Teachers and other employees of the Government College of Commerce took out a procession on Wednesday outside the press club demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Commerce teachers Muhammad Ashraf Mughal and Abdul Shakoor addressed the procession. They said they had been working in the college since 2003 on a contract basis. In 2012, the Punjab government shifted them to the Higher Education Department (HED) from Tevta depriving them of allowances.

They said there were 118 commerce college in Punjab under the HED where employees and teachers were regularised. They said Dera Ghazi Khan and Sialkot Sohail Siddiqi and Attiqur Rehman had died during service but neither the HED nor the provincial government offered any compensation to the heirs.

They demanded regular jobs or they would stage a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly in Lahore.

DANISH SCHOOL: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved on Wednesday the construction of a Danish School in Naushera Virkan, said additional district collector Maryam Kiani.

She directed Naushera Virkan Assistant Commissioner Zaigham Nawaz to acquire 100 acres for the school.

Danish schools are already running in Rahim Yar Khan, Hasilpur, Chishtian, Mankera and Mianwali.

RESCUED: The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau rescued six children from their masters on Wednesday and later a sessions court judge handed three of them over to their parents.

The bureau raided hotels and shops in the city and rescued them from bonded labour. Later, the bureau produced them in the sessions court. Additional Sessions Court Judge Muhammad Amjad handed over Zainul Abideen, Arsalan and Asad to their parents and Athar, Bilal and Azizullah to the bureau.

ZARDARI: PPP Co-chairman and former president Asif Zardari is due in the city in connection with party foundation anniversary on Thursday (today) where he will cut a cake in the farmhouse of Mehr Saddique in Kamoke.

Party sources say after the departure of Abdullah Virk from the PPP, the party one year ago, the party leadership could not fill the post of PPP district president.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seized 27 Pakistani passports and 20 Italian visas from alleged human agent Irfan and arrested him in Mandi Bahauddin on Wednesday. FIA Deputy Director Sikander Malik said Irfan was extorting heavy money from peoples to send them to European countries. The FIA registered a case against him.
