ISLAMABAD: A DawnNews vehicle was attacked in the federal capital on Sunday night, leaving one cameraman seriously injured.

Two cracker explosions took place near Faizabad pull where the van was targeted. The attack was carried out by two men on a motorcycle.

The attack occurred after media groups were returning from covering the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) gathering in Islamabad.

The explosion also burst one of the tyres' of the vehicle. Police reached the site of the blasts soon after the incident.

The explosions took place despite assurances that security would be tight in the federal capital.

SSP Islamabad Asmatullah Junejo said that the perpetrators of the attack will be arrested and punished.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack on the news team and called for the arrest of the perpetrators.

The attack has also been condemned by various political leaders including Information Minister Pervez Rashid, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, MQM's Babar Ghauri and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira.
