KARACHI: An official of the Dow University of Health Sciences (Ojha campus) was gunned down near Samama Shopping Centre on University Road in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday evening in what appeared to a botched robbery bid, according to police officials.

Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani said the murder appeared to be an outcome of resistance to a robbery attempt but DIG East Munir Ahmed Shaikh disagreed with him and said that initial probe suggested the murder might have been caused by reasons other than robbery.

Rubina Khalid Pervez was on her way home from the university in her car when three suspects riding a motorcycle intercepted her on the service road near Samama shopping centre.

“After an argument with the suspects lasting around one or two minutes, she came out of the car and started yelling for help. But the suspects silenced her within seconds by firing shots at her before fleeing,” said DIG Shaikh.
