RAWALPINDI: A few hours after the interior minister strongly denied the presence of Islamic State (IS) in the country, wall-chalkings in support of the organisation, commonly known by its Arabic acronym Daish, was found on the walls of People’s Colony, Sherianwala Chowk, in Attock City.

Police sources said unknown persons had written ‘Support Daish’ and ‘Long live Daish’ in Urdu. However, the slogans were immediately removed by the police and an investigation was initiated.

District Police Officer Israr Ahmed Abbasi confirmed that wall-chalking in support of Daish was found on one place but was immediately removed.

“Though I have not seen it myself, wall-chalking in support of Daish at one place was reported to me,” SSP Israr Ahmed told Dawn.

He said there is no need to register a case because it appears to be an act of a ‘mischief-maker’.

Earlier this month, law enforcement agencies seized four IS flags, affixed on electric poles in Taxila. So far, police and intelligence agencies have been unable to find out who had affixed flags in the well-patrolled area.
