Quaid’s Pakistan

Published November 23, 2014

APROPOS Dawn’s front-page news “IB given Rs2.7bn to foil PTI’s Nov 30 rally, alleges Imran” (Nov 17) followed by an editorial regarding it.

If the news is correct, it reflects on the working of the Intelligence Bureau. I am sure Dawn must have verified the authenticity of this news.

Every citizen has a right to express her/his views, but certainly not in the way Mr Imran Khan and certain other politicians are going about it. Moreover, protests have been turned into fairs and pre-election campaigns.

There are rules governing the expenses (donations or otherwise) on political activities the world over.

Were Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan checked for the sources of their funding (locally or from abroad)? They were feeding thousands of people three times a day. When an individual receives money from abroad, the banks want to know the source and the purpose of the remittances.

Mr Khan talks about rigging. He must be aware of the US presidential elections in 2000 in which Bush wanted to be re-elected as President while Vice President Al Gore was contesting for President. Mr Bush’s brother was Governor of Florida. Mr Gore went to the Supreme Court, but withdrew his petition despite his attorney assuring him that he would win. Mr Gore’s response was that the country was more important.

If Mr Khan has any problems, he should settle these in Parliament.

What is wrong with the Pakistan of Quaid-i-Azam and all those who wanted an end to colonial rule that Mr Khan wants a “New Pakistan”! Mr Jinnah was a visionary leader, a statesman and a man of principles who did not exploit the masses.
