23.59kg heroin seized at airport

RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: Customs authorities at Islamabad airport on Monday seized 23.59kg heroin and arrested a man in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Deputy Collector Customs Dr Tahir told Dawn that acting on a tip-off the Customs officials were alerted at the airport while the checking-in for Manchester-bound flight PK-713 was in progress.

The accused, identified as Amjad Mehmood and holding Pakistani passport, was found acting suspiciously. He was offloaded and asked for a search which led to the recovery of 23.59kg heroin concealed in cushions.

According to the Customs authorities, the value of the contraband is Rs200 million.
