MULTAN, Sept 7: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal deputy secretary-general MNA Liaquat Baloch has refuted that the alliance has accepted the president in uniform.

Talking to newsmen at the Multan airport on way to Karachi on Sunday, he termed the reports that MMA had consented to accept Gen Musharraf in both the offices of president and COAS as mischievous and contrary to the facts.

He said the MMA would not compromise on the superiority of parliament and the constitution, complete restoration of democratic institutions, provincial autonomy and an independent judiciary.

He said the MMA wanted to resolve the ongoing political and constitutional impasse through dialogue but Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and some other members of the ruling coalition were creating bitterness in the process of negotiations through their irresponsible statements.

He said the Legal Framework Order was extra-constitutional and had no legal position without the approval of parliament.

He said the government and the MMA had inched towards a ‘practicable’ solution of the deadlock over the LFO issue but the final round has yet to come.
