QUETTA: Armed militants opened fire at a railway station and killed two railway employees in Balochistan's Bakhtiarabad area on Friday.

Levies sources told Dawn.com that militants on motorcycles opened fire and killed the two employees on the spot.

Levies said the assailants sped away on their motorcycles after the attack.

Police and levies personnel reached the spot as an investigation into the incident is now underway. They termed the incident as an act of targeted killing.

"Victims had received multiple bullets," they added. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

However, levies suspect Baloch insurgents could be behind the attack.

Militants in the area have been targeting vital national installations including railway tracks, power pylons and gas pipelines for almost a decade.
