HYDERABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday organised ceremonies in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas to remember its activists and supporters killed during ethnic violence on Oct 31, 1986.

Dozens of party leaders and activists, including lawmakers, attended Quaran Khwani events and paid homage to their party colleagues on their anniversary observed as ‘Yaum-i-Shuhada’.

A programme to mark the occasion was held at Khursheed Begum Girls College in Hyderabad where Navaid Shamsi, speaking to the participants, recalled that a large number of Urdu-speaking people heading for Qila Ground in Hyderabad to attend the party’s first public meeting were killed on ethnic grounds.

MIRPURKHAS: A similar ceremony was held in Jinnah Hall of the Municipal Complex here on Friday.

MPA Dr Zafar Ahmed Kamalia paid homage to the slain party colleagues and supporters.
