ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that the targets of the sit-ins staged by his party and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek were different.

Congratulating the participants after completion of 70 days of the PTI sit-in, Mr Khan said that after the departure of Dr Tahirul Qadri from the Constitution Avenue the nation would be convinced that there was not any ‘London plan’ or a ‘third umpire’ behind the PTI-PAT sit-ins.

“Although I am upset because of the departure of the participants of the sit-in of PAT and its chief, I would like to thank Dr Qadri on behalf of my party for spending 70 days along with us at the sit-ins,” he said.

The PTI chief said the past 70 days were wonderful because the participants of both the sit-ins became friends and Dr Qadri succeeded in bringing awareness among the masses.

He said his party had decided about holding the sit-in about 14 months ago and the PAT leadership took the decision after the Model Town incident in which 14 people were killed.

He claimed that the Model Town incident was a conspiracy against democracy.

Mr Khan said he would not leave the sit-in without getting the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “I have told the members of the PTI Central Working Committee that I will stay at the sit-in till my last breath. I will call off the sit-in if Nawaz Sharif declares his assets.”

He announced that the PTI would challenge in the Supreme Court the TV licence fee being charged by the government along with monthly electricity bills.

Meanwhile, some departing participants of the PAT sit-in shifted their tents to the PTI sit-in area on Wednesday.
