SHEIKHUPURA: The by-election to PP-162 is scheduled to be held on Oct 23.

Earlier, it was postponed owing to flood. The seat fell vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Khurram Gulfam.

The ruling party has now awarded ticket to the late MPA’s nephew, Ehsan Riaz, while the PPP has reposed trust in Usman Nisar Pannu. The PML-Q and some religio-political parties are supporting Pannu. The PTI has not fielded any candidate as its central committee announced boycott of the polls.

There are 137,000 registered voters in the constituency and the election commission has established 176 polling stations, 17 of which have been declared sensitive. Also in contention is independent candidate Chaudhry Manzoor.

ARREST: A team comprising officials of the livestock department and Khanqah Dogran police on Sunday arrested two butchers for selling 40kg beef of dead animals.

Rakha and Munir are being quizzed after they were caught loading beef in a vehicle.
