ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: Four former officials of PTCL Balochistan were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for inflicting loss of millions of rupees on the government.

Mohammad Ismail Magsi was arrested on December 16 whereas three other officials, Abdul Hafeez Baloch, Mohammad Shoaib and Javed Akhtar, were arrested on December 17.

Brief facts of the case reveal that in 1993, the PTCL headquarters directed all regional offices to remove out of order copper wires from different sections, and keep these in their custody.

The accused, ex-Det, PTCL Khuzdar Matloob Hussain Qureshi and ex-SDO Khuzdar, Noor Ahmed removed 30,011 kgs of copper wire from Kalat-Khuzdar section and kept the same in a store. However, investigations showed that in fact only 8,000 kgs of wire were stored and Matloob Hussain Qureshi confirmed the quantity of 30,011 kgs of wire without making an entry in the store’s stock register.—APP
