SHIKARPUR: Police on Wednesday claimed to have shot dead two suspects in an encounter on Dari Jakhiree link road near Gharhi Yasin within the jurisdiction of the Dakhan police station.

Shikarpur SSP Javeed Ahmed Jiskani told the media that he along with a police party rushed to the area after receiving a tip-off about presence of a gang of dacoits there. He said that the gang was asked to surrender before the police but the suspects opened fire, which was returned.Two of the suspects were found shot dead after the encounter, he said, and identified them as Qurban aka Qurbo Jeho, a resident of Shahan Jeho village, and Wazir Ali Lolai, a resident of Gaheja village. He said the other members of the gang managed to flee on their motorcycles under the cover of firing.

The SSP said that killed suspects were wanted by the police in about 40 cases of heinous crime and Qurbo Jeho carried a head-money of Rs500,000.

Meanwhile, Dawn correspondent in Shikarpur Rahmatullah Soomro and DawnNews cameramen, Imtiaz Ali Soomro, were robbed of the motorcycle they were riding by armed highwaymen on Garhi Yasin bypass on Wednesday.

The suspects also took away the cash, three mobile sets and other belongings, including their CNICs and press cards, they possessed.

They were going to the Garhi Yasin police station to cover the SSP’s press conference.
