LAKKI MARWAT: The local chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has demanded of the provincial government to allocate funds for replacing old and damaged water supply lines to ensure supply of clean drinking water to the residents of Lakki City.

The demand was made in a meeting held here on Monday with PTI district general secretary Ahmad Nawaz in the chair. PTI activists and office-bearers attended the meeting.

Mr Nawaz told the meeting that the old, outdated and leaked water supply lines were causing diseases in the urban locality. He said that many households in the municipality complained repeatedly to the authorities concerned about supply of polluted and unhygienic water, but to no avail.

The PTI leader said that the pipelines had been laid out along the sewerage lines and under the heaps of garbage, therefore drinking water being supplied through those was not fit for human consumption.

“The prevalence of waterborne diseases is common in the urban locality and the government should take serious notice of the issue,” Mr Nawaz said. He requested Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvez Khattak to sanction special funds for laying new water supply lines in Lakki City.

ARRESTED: Police claimed to have arrested nine proclaimed offenders and seized 60 motorcyclists during a midnight operation on Sunday.

An official said that the operation was launched on reports about surge in theft and robbery incidents in different parts of the district. He said that heavy contingent of police backed by commandos of Elite Force and Anti-Terror Squad raided suspected places in the limits of Lakki and Pezu police stations and nabbed nine proclaimed offenders.

The official said that arrested outlaws were wanted by police in several cases. He said that law enforcers also rounded up 60 motorcyclists and impounded their 45 bikes. He added that police also increased night patrolling in the urban locality.
