GUJAR KHAN: An accused wanted in various heinous crimes escaped from Gujar Khan police custody on Tuesday, the police said.

According to the police sources, Mohammad Jawaid was allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom, extortion and murders and was arrested some two weeks ago.

However, according to the insiders, the police authorities instead of putting him behind bars kept him in a private cell with the permission of local police authorities.

According to the sources, when the police opened the door of the room to provide breakfast to the accused he was found missing with constable detailed on his security sleeping.

The superintendent of police, rural division Ghias Gul, when contacted said he had ordered an inquiry.

Meanwhile, a gang of robbers broke into the house of Abdul Rehman and decamped with gold, cell phones, Rs100,000 in cash and electronics items. The family had gone for shopping.

Moreover, a motorbike and a carry van were picked up from Gujar Khan city. The police have registered cases and started investigation.
