RAWALPINDI: Police have booked six suspects, including Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen leader Amin Shaheedi, on charges of abetting the killing of deputy caretaker of Madressah Taleemul Quran Raja Bazaar Mufti Amanullah and asked the authorities concerned to constitute a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate what they claimed was a case of targeted killing.

On the other hand, a separate case was registered with Ganjmandi police against unidentified miscreants under 7-Anti-Terrorism Act for burning an Imambargah in Tyre Market.

Soon after the killing, students from different seminaries took to the streets and attacked the Imambargah located near Madressah Taleemul Quran and set it on fire.

Later the body of a man, identified as Amir Ahmed alias Samandar Khan, was found from the rooftop of the Imambargah.

Police said the deceased operated a Tandoor near the Imambargah, and used to sleep there. However he had no link with the Imambargah.

Mufti Amanullah 34, the son of Maulana Ashraf Ali, was the complainant in the FIR against sectarian violence in November last year. He was also a witness to the incident.

According to the police, although they have started investigation into the killing of Mufti Amanullah, a joint investigation team, comprising police, counter-terrorism department and intelligence agencies officials, has also been sought to probe the latest incident of targeted killing.
