HYDERABAD, Sept 1: The executive district officer, health, Dr Ashraf Bhurgari, has said that round-1 of the three-day campaign against polio will be launched from Sept 2.

He was speaking at a news conference here on Monday.Dr Bhurgari said the people of Hyderabad should be happy to hear that no cases of polio had been reported here since Jan 2002.

He, however, cautioned that the district was surrounded by cases of the disease as in Dadu, Thatta, Naushahro Feroze, Karachi, Badin and Nawabshah districts such cases had been reported.

Dr Bhurgari said it was the duty of the parents to cooperate with the teams so that no child was left out during the campaign.

Unicef district focal person Dr Ahmed Haider and campaign focal person Dr Anwar Ali Leghari were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, WHO consultant Dr Domicina told a seminar on “Social Mobilization To Eradicate Polio”, organized by the health department at Tando Jam, that 54 polio cases had been reported in Pakistan, including 25 in Sindh.
