Kalabagh and Sindh

Published September 23, 2014

INDUSTRY needs a massive input of cheap energy, and agriculture needs a massive input of ample water. Only Kalabagh Dam can provide both these inputs. Small dams are not the answer. The Dasu Dam will do only half the job and Bhasha Dam is far away.

It is wrong to say: “Sindh will become a desert if Kalabagh dam is built.” There is no such danger with the Indus River System Authority distributing river waters. On the contrary, nothing can save Sindh from becoming a desert if Kalabagh dam is not built. Where will Sindh get 2.25 million acre-feet of water to add to the 7.0 maf it is already getting from Tarbela?
