PESHAWAR: The Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched the World Tourism Day activities in the province.

Among them is a visit of motorcyclists to Supat valley.

According to a TCKP news release issued here on Thursday, 20 motorcyclists from the Motorcycle Association of Pakistan’s Islamabad chapter will participate in the visit planned for today (Friday). The three days activity is to encourage domestic tourism and show the picturesque valley to the world.

For the guests, a programme, which includes traditional horse racing without saddles, will be organised.

Also, three days activities have been planned at the Peshawar Museum. The activities will open today (Friday), where the people from different walks of life, especially students, will participate.

TCKP general manager (events) Mohammad Ali Syed said land would soon be allotted for the establishment of a tourist village in Supat valley, which would be operational in May 2015.

He said the facility would generate employment and revenue for local community.

The TCKP general manager said the establishment of two rest houses and an information centre in Naran had also been planned. He said the rest houses would offer special packages for visitors to Supat valley.

According to the news release, the World Tourism Day being celebrated this year under the theme of ‘tourism and community development’ highlights the ability of tourism to empower the people and provide them with skills to change their lives and that of their communities.
