DEAUVILLE (France), Aug 31: Outsider Whipper surged past Much Faster in the last 200 metres to win the group one Prix Morny for two-year-olds on Sunday.

Whipper, a 26-1 long shot trained by Robert Collet, won by two lengths, with Denebola third, a short head back.It was rider Sebastien Maillot’s first group one win.

“We bought Whipper as a yearling at the Deauville sales. We have always held him in high esteem and is very much an improver,” said Collet.

“I am glad that I have also been able to provide Sebastien Maillot with his first group one win after many successes together.”

The previously unbeaten Much Faster looked like she would hold on to that record with just over 200 metres to go, but tied up in the last furlong and was run down by the fast-finishing Whipper on the outside of the soft track.
