LAHORE: Heavy downpour on Sunday caused tripping of the 149 feeders, suspending electricity to many residential and commercial localities in the city for hours.

The areas where electricity remained suspended for hours included Wapda Town, Valencia, Township, Johar Town, Multan Road, Thokar Niaz Beg, Garden Town, Iqbal Town, Ichhra, Lakshmi, Ashiqabad, Bund Road, Marghazar Colony, Sabzazar, Sodiwal, Shama, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Wahdat Road, Mustafa Town, Chauburji, Rewaz Garden, Bahawalpur Road, Sanda, Kutchery Road, Bhati, some localities of Walled City, Samanabad, Railway Station, Garhi Shahu, Shahdra, Raiwind, Ravi Road, Yateem Khana, Lakshmi, The Mall, Cantonment areas, DHA (some phases). Shalimar Road, Kotli Peer Abdul Rehman, Daroghawala, Harbanspura and Batapur.

"Actually 149 out of hundreds of city feeders tripped. Though we succeeded in restoring a majority of feeders till 4pm, some supplying power to Raiwind and its suburbs couldn't be made operational till 7:30pm because of the massive destruction to cables after felling of trees. However, we made these operational by 8pm," Lesco Superintending Engineer Asadullah told Dawn.

He said since the continuous rains were damaging the Lesco installations, the company was spending millions on restoration of electricity.
