DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 30: The district government is claiming exclusive rights over an auditorium that has been used by the Dera Ghazi Khan arts council since its establishment.

Without a building of its own, the arts council had been using a district council auditorium for its functioning. After the launching of devolution plan, the new district government directed the resident director of arts council to vacate the hall, which was to be used for sessions of the district council.

The resident director of arts council requested the district government to allow it to continue using the hall as the district council session was to be held only once a month. The arts council could use the hall for rest of the period.

However, the district government refused to entertain the resident director’s request. The executive director of Punjab Arts Council took up the suggestion put forward by the resident director of Dera Ghazi Khan arts council regarding joint utilization of the hall through an official letter to the district Nazim.

The arts council is still waiting for a final decision in this regard.
