VEHARI, July 23: The Punjab local government secretary on Wednesday directed the Burewala tehsil Nazim not to exercise his financial and administrative powers after the approval of no-confidence motion against him on July 5.

Reports said Local Government Secretary Naqibullah Malik, in a notification, authorized the tehsil municipal officer to operate the accounts of the Burewala Tehsil Municipal Administration along with DCO Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar as a joint signatory to sign any pay bills/cheques for the withdrawal/disbursement of salary of the staff and payment of utility bills from the TMA funds till further order.

As many as 28 members, out of 45, passed the no-confidence motion against Tehsil Nazim Usman Warraich, and sent it to the higher authorities for further action.

Meanwhile, Mr Warraich, who joined the PML-Q after meeting with the chief minister to save himself.

But the local PML-Q leaders did not accept him and continued their pressure for his removal from the office. As a result, the secretary withdrew his financial and administrative powers.

When contacted, former Tehsil Nazim Usman Warraich said that the local govt secretary was unauthorized to issue him a notification. He pledged to move court against the notification.
