LAHORE: A robber was killed while another was injured in crossfire with a security guard of a grocery store who was also wounded during a robbery in Sanda on Thursday.

Police said three armed men entered a grocery store in Hakeemanwala Bazaar and held the staff and security guard on gunpoint.

As the robbers tried to flee after collecting Rs1.1 million cash from the store, guard Qamar Zaman got a chance to reach his weapon and opened fire.

As a result, two robbers, later identified as Sarfraz and Zeeshan, received bullet injuries and fell down on the ground. Their third accomplice, Kami, returned the fire that hit the guard who too got injured. Kami, however, managed his escape with the cash, the police said.

Sanda police, on being informed of the incident, reached the spot. As the police were shifting the injured to the Mayo Hospital, Sarfraz succumbed to his injuries.

The condition of both Zeeshan and Zaman was said to be critical, hospital and police sources said.

Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Malik Nisar said the security guard timely acted that resulted in arrest of two robbers, while raids were being conducted for the arrest of the third one.
