GUJRANWALA: Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 Judge Muhammad Ittefaq Abbasi issued on Tuesday non-bailable arrest warrants for 72 activists of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, including Dr Tahirul Qadri, and directed police to produce them before him on Aug 23.

They are wanted for attacking and hurting 55 police officials, including DSP Rashid Sundho, on GT Road on Aug 8.

Police had registered a case against them under the Terrorism Act and submitted a charge sheet against them to the local court.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case on Tuesday against four people in a Rs9.6 million fraud case.

FIA Deputy Director Rana Khuram Saeed told Dawn complainants Khurram Shahzad, Ehtashamul Haq and Sajjad Mahmood opened their accounts in the Bank Alfalah, Dinga branch. After sometime, account holders found that their money had been withdrawn from their accounts using their cheques.

FIA Inspector Shahid Pervaiz interrogated the bank officials and found bank officer Anjum Iqbal and United Bank Limited officer Adeel Ahmad got printed cheque leaves from a printing press and withdrew Rs9.6 million using fake cheques from different accounts.

Farhan and Khalid are also stated to be their accomplices.

RAID: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and the FIA raided an oil factory in People’s Colony and arrested factory owner Mushtaq Ahmad and his accomplices for tampering with the gas meter.

SNGPL General Manager Qaiser Masood said a case would be registered against factory owners and a detection bill would be recovered from them.

DIES: An under-trial prisoner, Shoaib, died in the central jail on Tuesday.

The city police arrested him 10 days ago and sent him to jail where he died.

The jail authorities handed over his body to the heirs.
