RAWALPINDI, July 20: Islamabad police have fined 50,204 people for violating traffic rules and recovered Rs9,244,200 as fine in the last six months, a spokesman for the police said on Sunday.

The spokesman said 178 teenage drivers were issued tickets while 467 were fined for driving without licences.

He said 626 public transport vehicles were fined for route violations while 3,896 drivers were fined for speeding.

As many as 12,389 drivers were served with traffic tickets, about 3,923 for violating parking rules, 353 for rash driving, 576 for having faulty lights in their vehicles, 1,423 for over loading and 82 were fined for using pressure horns.

The police spokesman said, in view of the government’s directions to start a campaign against tainted glasses, the police issued tickets to 712 drivers for violating the ban. As many as 162 vehicle owners were booked for excessive emissions, 5,019 for lane violation and 20,398 for ‘other’ violations, he added.

The vehicles Challaned include 10,911 motorbikes, 13,759 cars, 8,186 cabs, 9,291 vans, 5,067 Suzuki vans, 2,381 jeeps and 609 trucks.
