LAYYAH: The police have arrested a middle-aged man on the allegation of raping a four-year-old girl.

‘S’, who came with her parents to settle in Jhang two months ago, was playing near her house in Housing Colony No 2 when her cousin informed the family that a man had taken her away.

The parents started a search for their daughter and found her coming home crying after a couple of hours. They learnt that the girl had been raped and she identified the manager of a petrol pump to be the perpetrator.

The police arrested the suspect as medical officer Sahira Farooqi confirmed rape. After obtaining medico-legal certificate, the city police registered a case 558/14 under Section 376 of PPC against the suspect and sent him behind the bars.

SUICIDE: A police official allegedly committed suicide at his home at Azam Chowk on Thursday.

Havaldar Muhammad Nawaz, 52, was in severe depression about the criminal case of kidnap of a girl which was registered against his wife Nasreen Bibi and two sons Muhammad Ahmad and Muhammad Ali.

Ahmad had been found guilty and a court was hearing the case, according to Shakir Ali, a neighbour of Nawaz.

The police found bullet case of a pistol beside his body, said Sub-Inspector Muhammad Sharif, who added that a single shot was fired in the mouth.

The Azam Chowk police brought the body to THQ Hospital for autopsy but did not register a case till the filing of this report.
