ISLAMABAD: Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, son of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is unlikely to obtain a copy of the family registration certificate of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan when he visits the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday for the purpose.

Informed sources told Dawn that Dr Arsalan, who has already declared his intention to file a disqualification reference against the PTI chief, would be going to the Nadra headquarters with an application to get a copy of Imran Khan’s family registration certificate.

A senior official of Nadra, when contacted, said Nadra was not authorised to issue a copy of somebody’s family registration certificate to an irrelevant individual. He said only the head of a family or its member could get a copy of that certificate.

The submission of application by Dr Arsalan would be part of an exercise meant to ‘gather evidence’ about the alleged concealment of facts by Imran Khan in his nomination papers. The move came after the PTI chief accused his father of playing key role in alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections and termed Dr Arsalan’s short-lived appointment as vice chairman of Balochistan Board of Investment as a reward for it.

Dr Arsalan has already obtained a copy of the nomination papers filed by Imran Khan from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Another application filed by him to get a copy of references filed against Imran Khan in 2007 is still under process.
