DADU: Workers of the Sindh United Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, JSQM-Arisar and Jeay Sindh Tehreek — components of the Sindh Bachayo Committee — staged a sit-in on the Dadu-Sehwan section of the Indus Highway on Monday in protest against arrival of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sindh.

The sit-in which started at 9am and was scheduled to end on 9am Tuesday led to traffic gridlock on Dadu-Hyderabad, Dadu-Sehwan, Dadu-Johi, Dadu-Larkana and Dadu-Moro sections of the highway.

SUP chairman Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, vice chairman of JSQM Niaz Kalani, vice president of JSQM-Arisar Aslam Khairpuri, JST leader Dr Safdar Sarki and other nationalist leaders led the protest.

Talking to Dawn, SUP chief Mr Shah said that in the first phase of protests against IDPs arrival, demonstrations on national highways and Indus Highway were being held, which started on July 9. The demonstration would continue till July 15 when a demonstration would be held on the Sakrand section of the National Highway, he said.

He said that they feared that terrorists might sneak into Sindh in the garb of IDPs and if they continued to come and settle here uninterruptedly they could reduce Sindhis to a minority. They would continue their protest against the arrival of IDPs, said JSQM vice chairman Niaz Kalani.

Workers of nationalist parties also staged demonstrations on the Dadu-Moro road and blocked all traffic moving towards different towns of the province.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Workers of the nationalist parties, components of Sindh Bachayo Committee, staged a sit-in at Moro bypass on the National Highway.

The protesters who set up a camp on the road for 24 hour long sit-in said that Sindh was already overburdened by ‘outsiders’ and could no more afford further arrival of the IDPs.

They said that terrorists in the guise of IDPs would come here from Wana and South Waziristan and settle in Sindh which was very dangerous.

Their arrival was part of a conspiracy to reduce Sindhis to a minority which could not be allowed, they said.
