ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said electricity loadshedding will end within three years as all ongoing projects in the energy sector will be completed by 2017.
He was addressing a meeting of the special committee on energy, constituted by the prime minister, presided over by Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad.
The chief minister said despite problems and complications, full cooperation of China in the energy sector is highly commendable. He ensured that if the electricity crisis in the country is resolved, then agriculture, industries and economy will see great uplift, leading people and country towards prosperity.
He said special attention was being given to the implementation of energy projects in the country, with full devotion and dedication, stating that the government will not rest until the energy crisis is resolved.
CM Sharif said that increasing the production of cheap hydro power is the top priority of the government, adding that reliance on thermal technology for generating electricity was the biggest mistake of the previous governments.
He said steps were being taken for resolving energy crisis at federal and provincial level, under a multi-dimensional strategy, which includes implementing energy generation projects through coal, solar and other alternative sources. Eradication of electricity and gas theft, along with controlling circular debts, is also underway, the chief minister said.
The meeting also constituted a working group, comprising ministries of water and power, railways and planning, with regards to logistical support for energy projects at Muzaffargarh, Rahimyar Khan and Jhang.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif also addressed the meeting. The meeting was informed that PC-1 of Guddani Project will be completed within a few days.

My Dear CM, I hope you can believe your advisers and public can believe you. But load shedding can't end without integrated policy. More power generated more power gets used by public.
To many rich elite wasting the energy and don't give a dam. Contact me and as an engineer I can help you define the policy to end the load shedding on top of generating the power by reducing waste and efficient use. At-least 80% power can be saved by deploying proper policy in place. We will not need to increase the prices

Here is a big mouth piece of n-League who during the 2011 eelection process , was shouting to the top of his voice to end the Load shedding in 6 MONTHS , Yes that is what he was saying to get elected . No one bothered to notice his about turn once in power ( off course elected on being untruthful towards his spoken words ) 6 Months , Hvad progressively moved from 2 to 3 years Now to 6 YEARS , Wow , what the guts these SHARIFs Have .

LAHORE, Staff Reporter: the punjab CM has reiterated his committment to end loadshedding in country by 2017 saying he'd resume his sit in protests outside Minare Pakistan until 2017 or loadshedding is not ended'. It may be recalled the sit in were staged first time by a goverment official in his last government.

@event horizon - No I'm not but CM needs some honest advise who ever can give! I have worked on many projects for efficient use of energy. Including housing standards where we keep raising concrete buildings without significant plantation in Cities. Buildings has to be insulated before load shedding can end! Plantation is required to reduce the temp. Reverse metering required take advantage of Solar power so people dont have to use batteries etc

Actually the government of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif has come up with a brilliant idea. Make electricity so expensive that common man will not even use electricity. So demand will be much less and the elite who can afford electricity, will then have sufficient electricity. Clever people indeed.

Has he become the federal energy minister? Is he speaking a chief minister of Punjab? or is he speaking as the brother of the Prime Minister. These people say things that are not directly related to their job responsibilities. Just because they are from the same family, the prime minister comes from, they give the impression that the government and PMLN (one and the same thing!!) do not believe in the chain of command, do not believe in merit and certainly can't be trusted to make good on their promises. I just hope they realise that they are alienating millions of Pakistanis and I really fear that this government will not last long.

the poor cm punjab only speaks . his statements are of no value . with new el generating projects coming up how much is there value , what will be the rates of elect at the end of Nawaz family govt. what they havedone prior to start.
when first time in ppp govt the private parties came and started selling elect to the govt of pakistan their rates were highest in the world . since that day the rates and theft is gone up . all the govts have done nothing till todate to control elect theft .
now the public is paying the highest elect rates can compare with all of our nabours . with this kind of situation Pakistan can not develop.
