Raja Pervez writes to Olson protesting NSA spying on PPP

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and secretary general of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Raja Pervez Ashraf, on Sunday wrote a letter to US Ambassador Richard Olson to formally protest the United States’ National Security Agency (NSA) spying on the party in 2010, DawnNews reported.
In the letter Ashraf said that the PPP condemned the act which was a violation of international law.
He further said that no one had the right to spy on the PPP, adding that the US should make amendments in its law so that such steps were not repeated in the future.
Earlier last week, Pakistan had condemned the NSA's surveillance programme for spying on the PPP in 2010, calling it a violation of international laws and demanded an end the practice and a formal protest was lodged in this regard on July 3.
The move was taken after the PPP had expressed dismay over the revelation and called upon the government to take up the issue at the diplomatic level and had sought guarantees that such violations would not take place in the future.
