Okara DCO bears the brunt of CM’s visit

LAHORE: Okara District Coordination Officer Saifullah Dogar was made an officer on special duty (OSD) on Tuesday reportedly on the directions of the chief minister who got angry with him after finding poor arrangements in Ramazan Bazaar during his visit to the city on Monday.

Our Okara correspondent said the chief minister arrived at the Mahboob Alam Chowk Ramazan Bazaar without protocol. He expressed his displeasure over the poor arrangements and quality of various items.

Upon his return to Lahore, the chief minister removed the DCO, the correspondent said.

However, official sources in Lahore informed Dawn that Mr Dogar, who is the son-in-law of Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Javed Aslam, was on leave and had been relieved of his duties as Okara DCO on his own request.

He had applied for ex-Pakistan study leave around 10 days ago, an official said.

This is nothing but another drama from Showbaz Sharif to divert people's attention from Model Town carnage. He should be nominated in the FIR as he is the Chief Executive of the province and it happened under his nose. He is the only person responsible for all decision making in Punjab. If he claims that he was unaware of this incident, then he is indirectly accepting his incompetency of not having any operational control of the Punjab province. He should resign or get arrested and tried in courts.

What a drama. Shabaz Shareef can win an Oscar for his performances. This guy was 15 mins away from the scene when innocent people were killed by the Punjab Police for 8 hours and he did not showup on the scene at all. Now he is doing this drama of showing up at the Ramzan Bazaar without protocol.

I agree with the other two writers; this is drama to deflect our opinion. Simple commonsense, as a businessman, Mr. Sharif should know that market tendencies, rate, acceleration and price control cannot be done by administrative actions. It is against the simple grain of capitalism. Any time government interferes, the marketing flow is stopped. The market free flow of goods, along with their supplies and production commands the marketing behavior. A simple DCO cannot do all these things, it is beyond his capabilities. Yes, the finance minister (the one who just signed a "historic loan") has the proper credentials and capabilities to do it. Let him manage or perhaps mismanage. Mr. Sharif stay out of this dogmatic and demagoguery. We are not stupid anymore.
