TOBA TEK SINGH: An 18-year-old girl was burnt to death allegedly by her ‘lover’ in Chak 296-GB on Saturday night.

The city police said Fayyaz Ahmad Malik liked Sidra Perveen and wanted to marry her, but her parents had refused. This outraged Fayyaz who entered Sidra’s house, sprinkled petrol on her and set her ablaze. The suspect then fled.

The girl was shifted to the DHQ hospital where doctors referred her to Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital. But she succumbed to her burns on the way to Faisalabad.

Police registered a case against the suspect on the complaint the girl’s father, Shaukat Ali, under sections 324, 326, 451and 302 of the PPC. DSP Mahmood Haroon claimed police had arrested the suspect and also seized the petrol container from his possession.

Fayyaz’s parents claimed the girl immolated herself when her parents refused to let her marry their son.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed DPO Dr Shahzad Asif to send him a report.
