ISLAMABAD, July 15: Captain Usman Saeed struck a flawless century and slow left-armer Khalid Mushtaq captured seven for 60 as Rawalpindi routed Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) by an innings and 64 runs on Tuesday in the PCB Under-19 Inter-district Cricket Championship.

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 173 for three, Rawalpindi declared at 289 for four in 67.3 overs at Army Cricket Ground. AJK had scored 111 in their first innings on Monday’s opening day.

Usman hammered 12 boundaries in his unbeaten 101 while Mohammad Asif Khan hit 72.

Rawalpindi’s Khalid then completed the demolition of AJK with Mohammad Asif Khan supporting with three for six as the visitors were dismissed for 114. Javed Iqbal was their leading scorer with an unbeaten 45.

The victory gave Rawalpindi a maximum of nine points, their first of the championship, after their last week’s opening match against Islamabad was washed out.

In another match Islamabad outplayed Chakwal by seven wickets at KRL Stadium, thanks to Umar Khattak’s sizzling 129 and a knock of 45 by Danish Hanif.

Islamabad went on to collect 324 off 68 overs after resuming at 93 for two.

After conceding a lead of 105, Chakwal batsmen couldn’t do much in their second innings and were bowled out for only 146, Fayyaz Ahmed doing most of the damage by snaring five wickets. He finished with a match haul of nine for 115.

Islamabad then achieved the victory target of 42 but not before losing three wickets.

Meanwhile, Jhelum scored a three-wicket victory over Attock despite conceding a first innings lead at Islamabad’s Shalimar Cricket Ground.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: West Zone Blues romped to a 10-wicket win against North Zone Whites in the Lahore region match at Model Town Ground.

Needing just 50, West Zone Blues won without losing any wicket.

In other matches of Lahore Region, West Zone Whites survived a scare before their match against East Zone Whites ended in a  draw at Mughalpura Institute Ground.

West Zone Whites were reeling at 152 for nine after being set a target of 281.

The third match of the region between North Zone  Blues  and East Zone Blues also ended in tense draw at LCCA Ground.

East Zone Blues were 135 for six in pursuit of a target of 181.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Karachi: Ghulam Yaseen staked claim for inclusion in the Pakistan U-19 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka next month with a superb 207 in Shikarpur’s two-day drawn game of the Hyderabad region against Khairpur at Shahi Bagh Stadium in Shikarpur.

According to details available here, Yaseen gave a timely reminder to the national selectors who had watched the youngster in the nets at National Stadium a couple of days. The Shikarpur skipper saved his side from deep trouble by adding 187 for the sixth wicket with Osama Zafar (48). He hit 19 fours and four sixes in his 27ball.

Responding to Khairpur first innings total of 284 for nine wickets declared, Shikarpur made 366. The visitors were 45 for one when the match ended.

Meanwhile, Zone-VII were the only side in the Karachi region to emerge winners, defeating Zone-V by an innings and 101 runs. The remaining two games ended in draws with Khurram Manzoor scoring century in each innings for Zone-IV.
