LANDI KOTAL: Three Khasadar personnel and four militants were killed and nine security personnel, including a Frontier Corps captain, injured when a group of militants attacked a checkpost in Jamrud in Khyber Agency on late Wednesday night.

Officials said that more than 12 militants armed with automatic weapons had attacked the Hawaldari checkpost on the main Peshawar-Torkhum highway near Jamrud bazaar.

The attack took the Khasadar personnel by surprise. Most of them were asleep at the time, the officials said, adding that the attack left three Khasadars, including an assistant line officer, dead and six others injured.

FC personnel stationed at the nearby Jamrud Fort rushed to the place and chased the fleeing militants. During an exchange of fire, four militants were killed. The FC captain and two soldiers were injured.

The injured were taken to a military hospital in Peshawar.

The political administration imposed a ban on motorcycle riding in tehsil Jamrud.

Meanwhile, the administration has failed to trace two kidnapped doctors. Dr Shaukat, senior field monitoring officer of the anti-polio campaign in Jamrud, was kidnapped on June 19 and Dr Irshad on June 24.

In another incident, two persons were injured when an explosive device went off in Bar Qambar Khel area of Bara on Thursday.

According to sources, the device was planted at the main gate of the house of Munsif Ali Khan, a member of the proscribed militant group, Amr Bil Maroof wa Nahi Anil Mumkir.
