Karachi lift regional U-19 title

LAHORE, July 14: Karachi won the PCB-Imran-Pepsi  inter-regional under-19 cricket tournament, defeating Rawalpindi by a narrow margin of five runs in the final at Gaddafi Stadium on Monday.

Rawalpindi, chasing a target of 145 for nine, were all out for 140 in 39.3 overs. Only skipper Ali Sarfraz (34, three fours) and Qasim Khan (24, three fours) offered some resistance.

Medium-pacer Mohsin Abbasi and leg-spinner Waqas Haroon claimed two wickets each for 16 and 13 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Karachi were restricted to 145 for nine in the stipulated 40 overs.

Tabghir Rehman was the top scorer with an unbeaten 27, including four boundaries. Waqas Haroon (22, three fours), Ahmed Iqbal (21, three fours), Rameez Raja (21, two fours) and Owais Rehmani (20) were the other notable scorers.

For Rawalpindi leg-spinner Asif Mumtaz claimed three for 31, Mahmood Azam took two for 20 and Qasim Khan two for 30).
