PESHAWAR: The polio vaccination campaign began on Sunday in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan, DawnNews reported.

During the anti-polio campaign in which some 2,400 teams are participating, almost 700,000 children are expected to be given polio drops.

Law-enforcement agencies have been directed to tighten security in the two cities. Entry and exit points for both Peshawar and DI Khan have been sealed and a restriction on riding motorcycles has also been imposed.

Officials on Saturday said that four more polio cases had emerged in Pakistan, putting the total number of reported cases in the country this year to 82.

Among these four new cases two were from Khyber tribal region whereas the other two were from North Waziristan area.

Last month, World Health Organisation (WHO) imposed strict travel restrictions on Pakistan to prevent the possible spread of the polio virus to other countries.
