KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mohammad Majid Ali, who is aspiring to make amends for last year’s loss in the final, opened his campaign on a winning note while routing Indian Nikhil Saigal 4-0 on the opening day of the 15th Asian under-21 snooker championship which commenced in Chandigarh on Saturday.
Second seed Majid, who is also the reigning national junior champion, romped home 87-33, 85-31, 83-9, 98-1 to post convincing win in group B opener.
Majid’s compatriot Haris Nadeem also delighted by emerging 4-3 victorious against Hong Kong’s Man Ming Wa in the fully stretched group A battle.
Haris cruised to 51-41, 12-49, 60-19, 44-60, 60-17, 6-70, 81-46 victory over his opponent to earn full points.
Pakistan’s two other cueists — former national champion Hamza Akbar and Amir Tariq — are redrawn in group E and F respectively.
Earlier, the organisers revised the groups due to fallouts of some cueists at the last moments. According to revised groups, 30 players are vying for honours and have been placed in six groups comprising five players each.
