FAISALABAD: The police have been deployed at Chaks 211-GB and 215-GB to prevent a possible outrage over an elopement case.

Tension prevails at two places after Nighat Bibi, 13, daughter of Mohammad Husain (Chak 211-GB), and Qaiser Masih (Chak 215-GB) eloped.

Husain got registered a case against Qaiser, his grandfather Inayat Masih, his two sons Asif and Aziz and their sister Asma on the allegation of abducting the girl at gunpoint.

The complainant said the suspects came to his house on May 29 and abducted his daughter.

He said the intruders also tortured him on resistance and took away Rs50,000, two cell phones and a gold ring.

A Christian family elder, while speaking to Dawn, pleaded that some unscrupulous elements of the area were trying to penalise the whole community on the pretext of elopement.

He said no one was supporting the ‘wrongdoer’ but the community was still being harassed. He said a number of families had been shifted to other places to be on the safe side.

City Police Officer Dr Haider Ashraf told Dawn the police were performing their duties round the clock at both the villages.

Usman, the brother of the girl, said the Christians of the locality were not extending any help for the recovery of the girl.

He said the police had arrested Gulzar Masih, father of Qaiser, Asif and his brother Aziz Masih.
