ISLAMABAD: Pakistan top-ranked player Mohammad Mudassir will face Syed Nofil Kaleem in the final of AJ Pharma Senior/ Junior National Ranking Tennis Championship being played at the PTF Tennis Complex.

In the first semi-final of the under-18 category, third seed Syed Nofil Kaleem displayed quality game and caused a major upset by defeating Mohammad Muzamil, who is Pakistan No. 2, in straight sets 6-4 and 6-3.

In the second semi-final, top seed Mohammad Mudassir was in fine touch and won the pre-final against Barkatullah Khan of Peshawar without conceding a single game in both sets.

However, in the Junior doubles semi-finals, Mohammad brothers — Mohammad Mudassir and Mohammad Muzamil —defeated Ilham Khan and Arbab Ali to reach the final.

They registered their victory with scores being 6-1, 6-2. They will face Syed Nofil Kaleem and Arham Atiq in the final.

Barkatullah Khan stirred upset defeating third seed Yousuf Khan of Peshawar in a well-contested two-set match 6-4,6-4 in the first semi-final of the U-14 category while Saqib Umer beat Peshawar’s Shoaib Khan in a thrilling three-set match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in the other pre-final.

In the senior 35 singles event, top seed Hamid-ul-Haq will face third-seeded Mehmood Khan in the final. Hamid-ul-Haq beat Mubarik Shah in straight sets in the first semi-final while Mehmood Khan struggled hard to beat Rashid Ali in a well contested three-set pre-final.

On round robin in girls U-8 event, Mahin Aftab beat Aqsa Sajjid while Alina Aftab beat Tupa Sajjid in straight sets with Mahin being at top winning two matches. Finals will be played on Friday.
