ISLAMABAD, July 10: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has announced Rs 5 million which would be given to the sport’s provincial body in Punjab for the renovation and upgradation of the courts at the Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex in Rawalpindi.

Air Vice Marshal Raashid Kaleem, the senior vice president of the PSF, informed the head of the Punjab Squash Association (PSA) Lt Gen Zarar Azeem about this during a meeting held in Lahore on Thursday.

The money would be spent on laying wooden floors in all the four courts in the complex besides installing backside glass wall in two courts. A sum of Rs 1.5 million would also go towards the renovation of the building.

Meanwhile work on the construction of a squash complex in Islamabad has begun. To be completed at a cost of Rs 30 million, the project once complete will have a portable all glass championship court, four practice courts, a gym and some offices. It will have a seating capacity for 1200 spectators.

Being built in the premises of the Pakistan Sports Complex, it will form part of the existing Roshan Khan squash courts on completion.

The PSF already is in possession of a portable court which was purchased last year and was first used during the Pakistan Open in Lahore.

The Islamabad project is expected to be completed by April 2004.
