RAWALPINDI, Dec 16: The government has asked the federal ministries and divisions to submit proposals regarding projects that Pakistan can undertake in Afghanistan as part of the reconstruction work there, sources said here on Sunday.

The ministries have been directed to submit the proposals at the earliest to save time and to be able to initiate reconstruction work in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

Sources said the government is trying to avail this opportunity to help revive the economy, which has suffered badly due to the Afghan crisis.

Pakistan is eying the lion’s share in the reconstruction work to be initiated by the Western countries and the United Nations.

Pakistan played an active role in the war against terrorism and later during the evolution of the interim administration for Afghanistan and has therefore been promised a major share in  the development works after the hostilities end there.

The Americans, believe that Pakistan’s continued support is critical for the new set up to succeed and prevent terrorists from re-establishing their hold in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s geographical location is also another factor favouring Pakistan’s selection as a major partner in the reconstruction work.
