PESHAWAR: All arrangements have been finalised to hold a Hindko conference in Abbottabad on May 10 (Saturday).

Being organised by the Gandhara Hindko Board, a Peshawar-based literary, cultural and social welfare organisation, the conference will be hosted at the Jalal Baba Auditorium.

The event will have various sessions, including research-based papers reading, poetry recital and cultural programmes that will have folk music and traditional songs.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan will be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the moot. A former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary, Ejaz Raheem, will preside over the session.

Apart from Pakistan, the literati from abroad will also turn up at the conference to express views on the ways for preserving and promoting Hindko, which is second main language of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and sixth largely spoken language of the country.

Among the expected delegates are Dr Anwer Dil, Dr Afia Dil and a known Pahari Hindko writer, poet and researcher from Kashmir, Mian Karimullah Qureshi.

Gandhara Hindko Board chairman, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, is overseeing all the arrangements of the conference, first of its kind in Abbottabad district of the Hazara division.

According to Muhammad Ziauddin, executive coordinator for the moot, the conveners of the conference -- Professor Yahya Khalid, Wahid Siraj and Professor Aamir Sohail -- and other members of the organising committee were holding meetings regularly to make the moot a success.
