LAHORE: Jumbo, the oldest lion in Lahore Zoo, died on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.
The lion — an African breed — had been brought to the zoo in 1998.
A few days earlier, Jumbo became sick and the zoo administration shifted the lion to the Veterinary Hospital. Despite being treated, Jumbo passed away today.
Doctors attributed the cause of the lion's death to a liver disease.
Following Jumbo’s death, the zoo is now left with seven lions.
The Lahore Zoo was established in 1872 and holds the distinction of being one of the largest zoos in South Asia.

We age we die, So do lions. Good hygienic water supply, cleanliness, Good nutrition, medical treatment, exercise and being able to behave normally together with other lions ..helps.

Dont know how electricity or better care could have prolonged his life.... thats the average life they live so don't blame the government for everything that happens in Pak!

I feel so sorry for these animals, they are kept in such a bad way. Especially if you go to karachi zoo and you see these big animals locked inside small cages, they get depressed and die. Zoo's in Pakistan should close down and send the animals to a better place where they can live in large in closures

Look at the pathetic plight they are in. Have a look on those rods without paint. It would be nice just to replace them with all steel rods that do not require any paint.

Allah has taken him away from the cruel captivity of a people who did not deserve this noble creature. People who put him in the ignominy of solitary imprisonment, behind bars in deplorable conditions.

Poor Jumbo, died in captivity. His life was worst than the prision condotions at Guamtanamo bay.

lion is dead, in picture it is alive, so not necessary picture is of lahore zoo, I have been there and they have well managed the zoo
