KARACHI: A new panel of Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS) was elected unopposed in the annual general body meeting of the body held on the sidelines of 30th Asian Snooker Championship at Fujairah on Thursday.

Mubarak Al Khayarin of Qatar, who served as secretary in the last biennial term, was elevated to the post of president. Pakistan’s Alamgir Shaikh was elected his deputy as senior vice-president. Michael Al Khoury of Syria and Joseph Lo of Hong Kong returned as secretary and treasurer respectively.

Alamgir, who is at the helm of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) for over last five years, is new entrant in the fray and has succeeded fatherly figure of sport, Asghar Valika, in the new body. The latter chaired the meeting as acting president.

“I’m indebted to Allah for bestowing upon me the honours,” an elated Alamgir told Dawn from Fujairah.

The ACBS official said it’s an honour for him as well for Pakistan and added that he will do his utmost to deliver the goods.

The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) president, Jim Leacy, who was specially invited, also attended the meeting.

The meeting elected former ACBS presidents – Sindhu Pulsirivong and Asghar Valika -- as Life Presidents of the ACBS.

According to another decision, Malaysia will play host to the 31st Asian Snooker Championship next year.

The meeting was attended by delegates from 32 member countries.
