PESHAWAR, July 8: Sarhad Tourism Corporation (STC) has requested the provincial government to hand it over some of the rest houses at various tourist spots of the province, official sources said.

A proposal was put up before the chief minister in this regard in which it was said that ownership of 30 rest houses be transferred to the corporation, sources said.

The rest houses are presently owned by different government departments.

It was also proposed that the rest houses be given on lease to private sector to enhance the corporation’s revenue.

An official said that the corporation, established in 1991, had no resources to generate revenue.

He said that the provincial government had earmarked only Rs6 million for the corporation in the annual development programme for the year 2003-04.

The corporation had already leased out a motel in Kalam (Malakand) and six rest houses in Nathia Gali (Hazara).

Though tourism was a concurrent subject, revenue of all tourist spots and motels in the province was going to Pakistan Tourism Development Corpora-tion (PTDC), sources said.
