MULTAN, July 7: The opposition has no immediate plan to launch a movement against the government, says MMA chief Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he dispelled the impression created through the reporting by a section of press that the opposition had decided in the all parties conference called by MMA in Lahore on Sunday to kick off a movement against the government from a public meeting on Aug 14. “A full scale movement is not in the offing.”

He said, however, if the government created hurdles in the smooth holding of the Aug 14 public meeting, a movement could be started. He said a compromise could be reached between government and the opposition if former retreated from its stubborn stand on the ‘uniform issue’.

He said that the recent spate of terrorist acts in Quetta demonstrated the failure of both law enforcement and intelligence agencies. He said the involvement of a ‘foreign hand’ could not be ruled out.

The MMA chairman claimed that the American visit of Gen Musharraf was a futile exercise which had nothing to offer to the people of Pakistan.
