KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead in an attack apparently on sectarian grounds in the Kharadar area on Sunday, police said.

They added that Ali Raza, 35, was sitting at his shop, where he sold potato chips, in the Jeelani Centre near Tower when armed motorcyclists targeted him and rode away. He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

“The victim was Shia and it appears to be a sectarian killing,” said Kharadar SHO Zafar Iqbal.

Young man shot dead

A 26-year-old man was shot dead in Mehmoodabad on Sunday, according to police.

They said that two men riding a motorcycle came to Ashrafuddin at a market in the Mehmoodabad Gate area, talked to him first and then fired at him and fled. He died while being taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The police said that the victim had a poultry shop in the market when he was residing in Chanesar Goth. He was recently shifted to Mehran Town from where he came to Mehmoodabad on Sunday to meet someone.

The police suspected some personal enmity as a likely motive for the murder.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old resident of Jhok, Thatta, was shot dead in the Cattle Colony on Sunday.

The police said Sikander Ali Jatoi was going on a motorcycle to attend a ceremony when gunmen targeted him.
